Our first ever Kids Fishing Derby turned out to be quite the success! Everyone was bright eyed and bushy tailed at 7:15am when registration opened.
At 8:00am, the 6 & under age group got lined up around the pond and waited for the ok to cast out. When the OK was given, all lines were in the water and everyone was off to catch as many fish as they could.
Within the first couple minutes, the very first fish of the day was caught by Jase Woolwine –
coming in at around 10 inches!
After the first hour was up, the announcement was called for all lines to come out of the water. Everyone was instructed to proceed to weigh-in as the next group of kids were filling in around the pond for their try at fishing.
At 9:10am, the kids aged 7-15 got the announcement to go ahead and cast in the water! By this time, the fish had calmed down some making it a little more challenging for the older kids to catch….but they had all the way until 12:00pm to catch as many fish as they could!
When 12:00pm hit, the announcement was called for all lines to come out of the water and for everybody to proceed to weigh-in. After all the fish were weighed and the measurements added up, we took a small recess to find out who won prizes!
At 3:00pm, everybody gathered under the pavilion to find out who the big winners were for the Fishing Derby. We had a few different prize categories for each age group – Total Weight of all the fish combined, Total Length of all the fish combined and Smallest Fish Caught. There was also a special prize for anybody who caught one of the six golden trout that were stocked in the pond.
For the 6 & under age group, Jaqalin Cruz-Pacheco won the Total Length category coming in with a total of 119.5 inches; he also won the Total Weight category with a total of 7lbs of fish!
The smallest fish for the 6 & under age group was caught by Lucas Ramsey, catching a fish that was only 9 inches long.
For the 7-11 age group, JaMarley Cruz-Pacheco won the Total Length category coming in with a total of 118.5 inches; he also won the Total Weight category with a total of 7lbs of fish!
The smallest fish caught in the 7-11 age group was only 10.5 inches long and was caught
by Austin Dean.
Next up was the 12-15 age group where Kayla Ramsey won the Total Length category coming in with a total of 55 inches. The Total Weight category for this age group was won by Samuel Serrett with a total of 3lbs of fish! Kayla Ramsey also won the Smallest Fish category catching a fish that was only 10 inches long.
The final category of prizes were for the Golden Trout. Out of the six golden trout stocked in the pond, only ONE of them was caught! Ryker Mercer reeled in the ONLY golden trout caught in the whole tournament coming in at 12 inches long –
did we mention he’s only 3 years old!
After all the category prizes were given out, we raffled off some other prizes as well that were donated by all of our wonderful sponsors.
We can’t thank everybody enough for coming to the first ever Kids Fishing Derby here at the Acres, we really appreciate it and can’t wait to do it again!
We also want to give a special shout out to all our sponsors who helped make this day possible – thank you, thank you, thank you!
